Peppermint Bark: Homemade Christmas Candy

Here is a great Christmas candy recipe that requires two skills: stirring and breaking things. This year I made two versions: one with chocolate and one without.

Peppermint Bark (with chocolate)

Ingredients:

  • 20 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 20 oz white chocolate chips
  • 1 t peppermint extract
  • Sprinkles

Directions:

  • Put semi-sweet chips in a bowl and microwave until melted (about 2 minutes) stirring after every 30 seconds.
  • Spread the melted chocolate on a half sheet pan lined with wax paper or a silicone baking sheet.
  • Put the pan in the freezer for one hour to harden.
  • Melt white chocolate chips as you did the semi-sweet. Stir in extract.
  • Spread over hardened chocolate and cover with sprinkles.
  • Let harden for one hour in the freezer.
  • Break bark into pieces.

Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:

  • 2 12oz bags white chocolate chips
  • 12 candy canes

Directions:

  • Melt white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl (for about 2 minutes) stirring after every 30 seconds.
  • Meanwhile; place unwrapped candy canes in a plastic zip bag and crush with a rolling pin or mallet.
  • Stir in 3/4 of crushed candy canes into melted chocolate.
  • Spread onto a half baking sheet lined with wax paper or a silicone baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with remaining crushed candy canes.
  • Let harden in the freezer for 2 hours.
  • Break bark into pieces.

That’s it! This candy is so easy and delicious. You could even switch it up and top the semi-sweet chocolate with the white chocolate and candy cane combination. Oh the possibilities!!
